In earlier years, Jack played on the TCU Golf Team and worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas (better known as Hogan’s Alley.)

While working at Cabo Del Sol, Jack taught for the Nicklaus-Flick Golf School and formed the Cabo Del Sol Golf School using the talents of local Mexican Golf Professionals along with Professionals from Canada and the U.S. visiting or retired in Mexico. Since returning to the States, Jack has taught for the VIP Golf Academy at La Quinta Country Club, The Golf Club at Terra Lago and since September, 2018; finally at the best of all facilities, The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort and Spa.

Think Less-Play Better

When Jack became Director of Instruction in Mexico, in 1995, he soon discovered that the old “body position” instruction he had used for years and was taught to teach in those PGA classes young Golf Professionals had to go through, didn’t get results for tourists just in the area for a few days. He gradually abandoned his overly mechanical teaching in favor of having his students work more on balance, timing, reducing tension and thinking less, while just learning to swing their golf club toward their target.

While in Mexico, Jack read the book “Swing the Clubhead” written by the great teacher, Earnest Jones, after World War One and discovered that he had started using some of the phrases that Jones had used, before even reading the book. Jack was fortunate enough to have played with the great teacher, Manuel De La Torre and finally understood what Manuel was teaching. Jack was also encouraged to continue his teaching methods by Jim Flick shortly before his death.

Jack’s book, “Thought Reduction Golf” emphasizes simple and proven fundamentals while making the golf swing as simple as possible, avoiding those often uncomfortable mechanical positions of the body and club head and eliminating as much conscious thought as possible. He continues to teach simple and repeatable feelings, especially working to “feel” the club head throughout the golf swing. Jack is a great believer in what Arnold Palmer said in a commercial a few years ago: “Work to improve the swing you have and don’t try to swing like somebody else.”

Jack believes that students get the most for their money and improve more when working as a couple or individual. VIP is the country’s oldest, largest and best Golf School for students who are really serious about improving.
