Seven Most Important Principles of

Good Putting

FUNDAMENTALS

1. Eyes directly over the ball.
2. Hands directly under the shoulders.
3. Light grip with shaft more in the palms and hands in a neutral position.
4. Shoulders square to intended line.
5. Use arm and shoulder stroke.
6. Back of left hand straight and firm through striking the ball and at least 1 to 2 inches past the ball.
7. Putter should move on its natural arc. Almost straight back and forward on shorter putts and becoming an increasingly inside-straight-inside motion as the putts become longer.

STEPS TO IMPROVE YOUR PUTTING

1. Analyze each putt unemotionally and on its own merit. (No extra emotion or pressure for a birdie putt over a double bogie putt.)
2. DO THE SAME THING EVERY TIME!!!!!!
3. Visualize seeing the ball leaving the putter head and traveling on the intended line and going in the hole.
4. Practice your putting. At the club, at home, and especially in your mind.
5. If you practice putting for 15 minutes. At least 10 minutes should be used practicing putts over 20 feet.
6. Set your own sequence or pattern to hit each putt.
Example:
1. Analyze and read the putt.
2. Pick the line and target. Fine tune on the target.
3. Step up to ball and stroke one or two times. Use the stroke you will use on the actual putt.
4. While practice stroking, VISUALIZE seeing the putt going in the hole as planned.
5. Put the putter behind the ball and putt it. Keep in visual and do not rethink the putt after you have addressed the putt.
6. After the putt - Replay it in your mind. Leave the green with a good thought.
7. If you don't think you are going to make a putt.
YOU'RE RIGHT!!!!!!

Think you can, see you can, believe you can - and you will!!
